What is Experiential Dynamic Therapy?

Experiential Dynamic Therapy (EDT) is an umbrella term for a family of approaches that work with emotions and defenses directly — in real time, in the body, and in the therapeutic relationship — rather than simply talking about them intellectually.

My work is most deeply rooted in Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), a specific and highly researched method within the EDT family, developed by Habib Davanloo. ISTDP focuses on helping people access and work through deep emotions connected to past trauma and unresolved experiences, in order to get to the root of suffering rather than just managing symptoms.

Though I consider myself an integrative practitioner and draw from a range of modalities, ISTDP principles and techniques are at the core of how I work. Below are some resources to help you learn more.
